Chicago Language Data Visualization

This visualization explores the languages spoken in Chicago's diverse community areas. The data is sourced from the 2010 U.S. Census Bureau 2008-2012 American Community Survey via the Chicago Data Portal. The data describes the most common language spoken other than English by community area, the percentage that speak this second most common language who "speak English less than very well", and the estimated number of people who speak another language other than the second most common language. Slides 1 and 2 show the top 10 community areas in Chicago where Spanish and Polish are spoken, respectively, based on the percentage of the population. Slide 3 allows you to select a language from a dropdown menu to see estimated population that speak that language by community area.
